Liton overshadows Ashraful ton

Saif Hasan scored a century to guide title-aspirants Abahani Limited to their third consecutive win in the Dhaka Premier League with massive 136-run win over Brothers Union at Fatullah on Tuesday.
Liton Das struck an unbeaten 143 to overshadow the centuriers of Mohammad Ashraful and Taibur Rahman as Prime Doleshwar beat Kalabagan KC by eight wickets at the BKSP.
In the other match, Jahirul Islam’s century couldn’t prevent the second defeat for the defending champions Gazi Group Cricketers in the league as they lost to Khelaghar SKS at the neighbouring ground.
Abahani v Brothers Union
Bating first, Abahani made 266 runs in the stipulated 50 overs with Saif Hasan scoring 108 off 132 balls including six fours and five sixes.
On his way, Saif shared an 82-run opening stand with Anamul Haque (41) and a 93-run second wicket partnership with Nazmul Hossain (38).
Brothers’ batsmen had little answer to spin duo of Mehedi Hasan and Sunzamul Islam as the duo picked up three wickets each to help Abahani bowl out the side 130 in 35.4 overs.
Yasir Ali is only significant run-getters for Brothers with 35 runs.
Kalabagan v Doleshwar
Batting first, Ashraful and Taibur shared 188-run for fourth wicket to guide Kalabagan to 290-4 in 50 overs.
Ashraful completed his seventh List-A hundred and by scoring 104 off 131 balls with 11 fours while Taibur was unbeaten on 114 off 109 balls. Spinner Arafat Sunny claimed 2-49 for Doleshwar.
In reply, in-form Liton Das and Marshall Ayub toyed with the Kalabagan bowlers to take Doleswar to 291-2 with 30 balls to spare.
Liton smashed a superb 143 off 123 balls including 14 fours and three sixes while Marshall remained unbeaten on 91 off 72 balls. Indian recruit Jatin Saxena picked up 2-57 for Doleshwar.
Gazi Group v Khelaghar
Opting to bowl first, Khelaghar bowlers couldn’t use the advantage of winning the toss as 102 off 142 by batsman Jahirul Islam helped Gazi Group to make 247-5 in 50 overs.
Jahirul hit five fours and one six to reach his second List-A hundred while Indian recruit Rajat Bhatia remained unbeaten on 61.
In reply, wicketkeeper-batsman Mahidul Islam made 85 off 109 balls and put a 103-run fourth-wicket stand with Ashok Mineria to guide Khelaghar to a comfortable five-wicket win.
Ashok scored 51 off 50 balls as Khelaghar reached 249-5 in 48.3 overs. Spinner Naeem Hasan claimed 2-48 for Gazi Group.
