All-rounder Mahmudullah will lead Bangladesh in the first Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka on Thursday after regular skipper Sakib al Hasan was ruled out of the game, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Sakib was ruled out of the game as he failed to recover sufficiently from a finger injury.
Sakib missed the recent Test series against Sri Lanka after he hurt his left little finger during the final of tri-series one-day international final against the same opponents in late January.
Mahmudullah led Bangladesh in the Test series in Sakib’s absence.
The Tigers lost the series 1-0.
Selectors on Tuesday included uncapped left-arm spinner Nazmul Hossain as replacement of Sakib for the first Twenty20 international.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said they will monitor the progress of Sakib before playing in the second Twenty20 international
The second match of the series will be held in Sylhet on February 18.
