A 10-day Inter-University Theatre festival ended on Sunday with staging of Captain Hurra by Chittagong University’s drama and dramatics department at Selim Al Deen Muktamancho of Jahangirnagar University.
Written by Mohit Chattopadhyay and directed by Shamim Hasan, the play revolves around three youths’ dream of creating a country with full of resources.
JU-based Jahangirnagar Theatre organised the festival marking the troupe’s 38th founding anniversary.
Four public universities including Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul University’s theatre and performance studies department, Jahangirnagar University’s drama and dramatics department, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and Chittagong University’s drama and dramatics department staged plays.
Host troupe Jahangirnagar Theatre staged Manush and Hat Hadai while another Dhaka-based troupe Open Space Theatre staged 12 Angry Men at the festival.
Two scheduled troupes including Dhaka University’s performance studies department and BUET Drama Society and theatre department of Chittagong University.
Convener of the festival Nazmul Hossain, a Jahangirnagar University student, said, the inter-university theatre festival organised for the first time was a great success.
Jahangirnagar Theatre also honoured its founding members like Shahiduzzaman Selim, Subhashis Bhowmik and others, he said.
