The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday began inquiry into wealth of recently suspended Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s additional commissioner Mizanur Rahman.
The ACC assigned deputy director Farid Ahmed Patowary to hold the inquiry, an ACC director told New Age. He said that a notice would be served on Mizan asking him to submit his wealth statement to the ACC.
He said that according to reports received by the ACC, Mizan allegedly accumulated huge illegal wealth.
He said that media reports and an individual’s complaint prompted the ACC to initiate the inquiry against the senior police official.
On January 9, Mizan was withdrawn from the DMP and attached to the police headquarters following allegations that he picked up Morium Akter and forcibly married her.
There were also the allegations that Mizan subjected her to torture.
Later, as feuds cropped up with her family Mizanur got Morium arrested on July 17, 2017, implicating her in a false case.
The entire episode was brought to public notice by the media.
