Former national team cricketer Alok Kapali shone with bat and ball as Brothers Union registered their successive win in the on-going Dhaka Premier League defeating Prime Bank Cricket Club by 26 runs at the BKSP on Sunday.
Kapali scored a blazing 79 off 67 balls to guide his side to score 294-7 before finishing with 3-46 to bowl Prime out for 270 runs and hand them their first defeat in the tournament.
In the neighbouring ground, Tanbir Hayder’s quick-fire 71 off 48 balls guided Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to clinch their second victory in the tournament as they beat Agrani Bank Cricket Club by 28 runs.
In the third match of the day, pacer Qazi Anik’s maiden five-wicket haul in List-A cricket went in vain as Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a 62-run defeat against Legends of Rupganj at Fatullah.
Brothers Union v Prime Bank
Asked to bat first, Brother’s top-order batsmen made a moderate start before Kapali and Yasir Ali added 95 off 84 balls for the fifth wicket to take them close to 250-run mark.
Man-of-the-match Alok scored 79 off 67 balls with five fours and as many sixes while Yasir remained unbeaten for 69 off 63 balls with four fours and two sixes to take their score close to 300-mark.
In reply, Prime Bank lost wickets at regular intervals and were held to 153-7 before Nahidul Islam (88) and Delwar Hossain (36) added107 runs for the eighth wicket to bring excitement in the match.
But pacer Khaled Ahmed who finished with 2-43, dismissed both the set batsmen in consecutive deliveries to finish all hopes for Prime Bank who eventually fell 24-run short.
Sheikh Jamal v Agrani Bank
Sheikh Jamal lost their three top-order batsmen for only 56 runs after they were sent to bat first but Indian-recruit Digvijay Rangi (58) and Elias Sunny (40) added 94 runs for the fourth wicket to resist their innings.
Both the batsmen were dismissed within eight deliveries but wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan (36) and Tanbir made 82 runs for the sixth wicket to exhilarate their innings.
Man-of-the-match Tanbir smashed a blistering 71 off 48 balls including five fours and three sixes to help Sheikh Jamal to score 294-9 in their stipulated overs.
Agrani Bank pacer Shafiul Islam claimed 4-68 while Abdur Razzak and Soumya Sarkar picked two wickets each.
Chasing a target of 295, Agrani Bank lost three quick wickets as well before their Pakistani-recruit Rafatullah Mohmand (43) and Dhiman Ghosh (48) added 62 runs for the fourth wicket to help them back in the match.
But none could score big runs and Agrani Bank were bowled out for 266 runs in the final over despite a late cameo from Shafiul who made 44 off 31 deliveries with one four and three sixes.
Left-arm spinner duo Elias Sunny and Nazmul Islam claimed three wickets each for Sheikh Jamal.
Rupganj v Mohammedan
Opener Abdul Mazid scored 70 off 148 balls while Tushar Imran and Indian-recruit Avishek Mitra and made 40 and unbeaten 45 respectively to take Rupganj to 231-7 in 50 overs.
Under-19 pacer Qazi Anik was the pick of the bowler for Mohammedan finishing with 5-44.
In reply, Mosharraf Hossain and Asif Hasan shared seven wickets between them to wrap Mohammedan only for 169 in 44.3 overs.
Skipper Shamsur Rahman scored highest 34 for Mohammedan.
Mosharraf claimed 4-23 while Asif finished with 3-37.
