Bangladesh one-day international skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza starred with bat and ball to hand title-aspirants Abahani their second successive win in the Dhaka Premier League on Friday.
Mashrafee struck 67 off 54 balls with three fours and five sixes before his 4-49 with ball helped Abahani beat Kalabagan KC by 36 runs at BKSP.
Youngster Zakir ali Anik’s 90 guided defending champions Gazi Group Cricketers to their first win as they defeated Shinepukur Cricket Club by 20 runs in the other ground at BKSP.
Elsewhere at Fatullah, Prime Doleshwar claimed their first win in a breathtaking manner as they pulled off a one-wicket heist in the last over against Khelaghar SKS.
Abahani v Kalabagan
Opting to bowl first, Kalabagan pace duo Shahadat Hossain and Abul Hasan sent six Abahani batsmen to the pavilion for 106 despite Nazmul Hossain making 55 runs at the top of the order.
But Mashrafee’s quick-fire innings and Mosaddek Hossain’s 40 off 73 balls helped Abahani to score 217 before they were all out.
In reply, Kalabagan faced the wrath of Abahani pace-duo Mashrafee and Taskin Ahmed, who shared seven wickets between them to dismiss the side for 181. Taskin claimed 3-30.
Mohammad Ashraful’s 25 off 71 balls and Mukhtar’s 40 off 39 balls couldn’t stop Abahani from getting a comfortable win.
Doleshwar v Khelaghar
Prime Doleshwar skipper Farhad Reza’s four wickets for 37 runs helped them restrict Khelaghar to 199-7 in 50 overs.
Nazimuddin top-scored with 51 off 93 and shared 74-run partnership Indian recruit Ashok Menaria, who scored 45 off 62 balls.
In reply, Prime Doleshwar made a good start as Imtiaz Hossain and Fazle Mahmud added 53-runs in the opening pair. But Khelaghar blowers made a wonderful comeback as they picked Doleshwar’s five wickets for 58 runs and left them on 7-196 with four runs needing in the final over.
Pacer Mohammad Saddam raised the suspense in the final over as he picked Farhad and Arafat Sunny off successive deliveries but Manik Khan held his nerve to score three runs and catapult Doleshwar to their first win.
Gazi Group v Shinepukur
Asked to bat first, Gazi Group batsmen Anik and Nadif Chowdhury put a brilliant batting display as their 114-run stand took Gazi to 279-6 in 50 overs.
Man-of-the match Anik scored 90 off 118 balls by smashing six fours and two sixes while Nadif made 71 off 68 balls including five fours and three sixes. National stalwart Mohammad Saifuddin claimed 2-68 for Shinepukur.
In reply, Shinepukur were well on their way to the second victory as they scored 197-3 in 38.3 overs. But spinner Naeem Hasan and Rubel Ahmed dragged the match to Gazi’s favour as they picked three wickets a piece to restrict Shinepukur to 259 in 48.4 overs.
Naeem claimed 3-36 while Rubel finished 3-63.
