Bangladesh National Museum launched an album titled ‘Master Artists of Bangladesh: Zainul Abedin’ featuring an article on the legendary artist and prints of his 100 popular works on Monday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The article titled ‘Zainul Through His Idioms and Intervention’ by artist Mustafa Zaman has sub-titles: ‘Placing the Maestro on the Regional Map’, ‘Childhood as a Constant Source of Inspiration’, ‘Emergence of the Modern Artist’ and ‘Zainul’s Reworking of Realism’.
Prints of the 100 works have been selected from the museum’s collection of 807 artworks of the maestro. For giving a glimpse of works done in different phases of his life, these prints have been published under sub-sections titled ‘The Pioneer Modernist’, ‘Bengal Famine: Portraying Human Ordeal’, ‘The Making of the Maestro’ and ‘Voicing the Vernacular’.
The album was launched as an ancillary event of the ongoing 4th Dhaka Art Summit.
The ceremony was graced by the Independence Day Award-winning artist Hashem Khan, director general of Bangladesh National Museum Faizul Latif Chowdhury, artists Syed Jahangir and Mustafa Zaman.
‘Of late, Bangladesh National Museum has taken a good initiative, which will help introduce the artworks of the great maestro to the young generation’ Hashem Khan said.
It is worth mentioning that Bangladesh National Museum published a book on the master artist titled ‘Zainul Abedin: The Man and his Arts’, written by Syed Ali Ahsan, in 2006.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also published a similar album.
Bangladesh National Museum director general Faizul Latif Chowdhury said the museum would publish albums on master artists Quamrul Hassan and S M Sultan in future.
