State of emergency: Bangladesh opens hotline in Maldives

Bangladesh has opened a hotline for its citizens living in Maldives for any kind of support as the Maldivian government declared a state of emergency there for 15 days.

In a press statement, the Bangladesh Embassy in Male has urged the expatriates and tourists to call the embassy over+9603320859for any support.

The embassy has also urged them to remain cautious, and avoid going outside unnecessarily and attending gatherings such as rallies, meetings and processions.

On Monday, Maldives president Abdulla Yameen declared a 15-day state of emergency as the political crisis deepened in the Indian Ocean nation amid an increasingly bitter standoff between the president and the Supreme Court.
