Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Friday met Hefazat-e-Islam chief Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi amid ongoing unrest over BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s graft case verdict on February 8.
The home minister met Allama Shafi at his office at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrassah at Hathazari in Chittagong at 4:30pm. Hefazat ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi is the director general of the madrassah.
The minister stayed 30 minutes at the madrassah and left at 5:00pm. He also held a 10-minute meeting with the country’s much-talked Islamist group chief at his office, said sources.
While leaving the madrassah, the home minister said to reporters that it was a personal visit and he had come to take blessings from Shafi.
When contacted, Hefazat’s organising secretary Azizul Hoque Islamabadi told New Age that the home minister came to visit ailing Hefazat-e-Islam chief Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.
No political discussion had occurred between them, the Hefazat leader said.
