Traditional songs composed by five folk bards were presented at a programme held at Chhayanaut Shangskriti Bhaban auditorium in Dhanmondi on Friday.
The programme, organised by Chhayanaut, featured rendition of traditional songs of five folk bards including Fakir Kala Shah, Bijoy Sarkar, Khalek Dewan, Kuti Mansur and Nurul Islam Zahid by Chhayanaut artistes.
The programme began with a chorus rendition of Fakir Kala Shah’s song Amar Murshid Poroshmoni Go.
Mofidul Haque, member of Chhayanaut advisory committee and one of the trustees of Liberation War Museum, delivered the welcome speech at the programme.
In the beginning of the 20th century Mohammad Mansuruddin collected thousands of traditional songs from different parts of Bengal. He published the songs in a 13-volume collection titled ‘Haramoni’, which literally means lost jewels. We want to preserve and promote our rich traditional songs by organising regular programmes, said Mofidul Haque.
Bijoy Sarkar, Debahuti Majumdar, Motajur Rahman Manik, Sardar Md Rahmat Ullah, Chandana Majumdar respectively rendered Ami Gaaner Mala Gathiya Rakhilam Horoshe, Ami Jare Bashi Valo Se Kire Ta Jane, Ami Jare Haraichi Jobone, Amar Pran Bondhua Deshere and Janite Chai Doyal Tomar Asol Namta Ki.
Setu Khandakar sang Khalek Dewan’s Sokhi Dhor Amay and Uzzal Dewan rendered Ki Sukhe Rai and others.
Nirob Majumdar moved the audience singing Kuti Mansur’s songs Ke bole Maush More and Amar Doyal Allah Re.
Besides, Erfan Hossain sang Arer Payer Mathat Pao and Sadia Nur Mumu rendered O Nidoyare Bandhudon at the show.
The programme was dedicated to folk bard Fakir Kala Shah.
