Songs on Madhusudan’s poems presented

Songs based on Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s sonnets and poems were presented by Jessore-based artistes at a programme held at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.

The artistes presented the songs from the album Janmo Jadi Tobo Bange, which was launched at the programme organised by Jessore-based cultural organisation Punascha marking nineteenth century Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s 194th birth anniversary.

The album contains 14 songs based on Madhusudan Dutt’s five sonnets and nine poems from Brojongona Kabya like Darao Pathik Bar, Nachiche ShikhinI Sukhe, Ki Kohili Koho Sakhi, Ekhon Ki Ar Nagor, Satota Hey Nad, Ke Tumi Shyamere Dako and others.

Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present as the chief guest at the programme. Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus and SSJ general secretary Hasan Arif were present as special guests.

‘Jessore-based organisation Punascha has done a wonderful job by releasing an album featuring songs based on Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s poems’, said Asaduzzaman Noor.

Sukumar Das has set tune to lyrics of Dutt’s poems in the album.

The songs have been recorded by artistes like Pratasha Haldar, Sajib Paul, Imran Khandakar, Sukumar Das, Mili Sohani Tutul Biswas, Manika Das and others.

‘I set tune to lyrics of two poems by Dutt back in 1996. Later I set tune to lyrics of another 15 poems of Dutt. The album Janmo Jadi Tobo Bange contains 14 songs’, said Sukumar Das. 

Following the album launch, Punascha artistes presented the songs from the album to the delight of audience.
