Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Saturday termed the people, who consider capital market as a place of speculations, as enemies of the country’s investment market.
Stating that once upon a time there was no discipline in the capital market, Muhith said that Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has brought back discipline in the market over the past seven years turning it into a blooming sector of the country.
‘So, the capital market is not a place for speculations. It plays a vital role in the country’s development. Those who think the market is for speculations are its enemies,’ the finance minister said.
He made the comment while inaugurating a programme styled ‘Conference for investors and entrepreneurs and investment study fair 2018’ as chief guest held by the BSEC at a convention centre in Sylhet city at 11:00am on the day.
BSEC organised the fair to create awareness among the people about the investment in stock markets.
Mentioning that the capital market also plays a crucial role in empowering the people, Muhith said the people should invest their money after knowing about the market properly instead of depending only on fate.
‘Though people’s participation is very important in boosting the capital market, the market itself has to enrich it. Because, this is not the duty of banks or the people,’ he added.
The BSEC chairman M Khairul Hossain presented the welcome speech in the inaugural ceremony that was attended, among others, by the officials of the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges.
