The National Board of Revenue on Monday published the names of the 141 national income tax card recipients (individual and corporate) in the national level for the fiscal year of 2015-2016.
The revenue board will award them with tax cards, crests and certificates at a programme to be held in Dhaka on Thursday on the occasion of the National Income Tax Week (November 24-30).
Of the recipients, 76 are selected from the individual category, 57 from the corporate category and eight from other categories for paying highest income tax in the fiscal year.
The NBR for the first time selected the taxpayers for the award from a wide range of categories to accommodate taxpayers from different sectors and income groups as many highest taxpayers in previous years were left out of the list due to various limitations including the number of recipients.
Till last year, the revenue board awarded 10 individuals and 10 companies for paying the highest income tax at the national level in a year.
Md Kaus Mia, like previous years, topped the list of recipients in the businessman category, Hosne Ara Hossain in the woman category, Khawaja Tajmahal in the salaried person category, Pran Gopal Datta in the doctor category, Mahfuz Anam in the journalist category, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh in the lawyer category, Tamim Iqbal in the athlete category,
Subarna Mustafa in the actor/actress category and Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya in the singer category.
Nafiz Sikder became the highest taxpayer in the young (below 40 years) category and Sultan Mahmud topped the list in the new taxpayer category.
Among the corporate taxpayers, Standard Chartered Bank topped the list of the highest taxpayers in the banking category, Infrastructure Development Company Ltd in the non-bank financial institution category, Grameenphone in the telecommunication category, PHP Cold Rolling Mills Ltd in the engineering category, Nestle Bangladesh in the food category, Titas Gas Company in the energy category, Unilever Bangladesh in the pharmaceuticals and chemical category, and Media Star Ltd topped the list in the print and electronic media category.
The tax card awardees are entitled to enjoy a number of privileges for one year including priority while reserving seats in public transports, public hospitals, and access to VIP lounges at the airports and invitation to state functions.
