Left student wing Bangladesh Chhatra Federation has demanded students’ union polls at all educational institutions across the country to ensure democracy at the educational institutions.
The Ganasamhati Andolan-backed student organisation made the demand at a rally in front of Aparajeyo Bangla on Dhaka University campus on Sunday, marking the organisation’s 33rd founding anniversary.
Marking the day, leaders and activists of the Chhatra Federation brought out a colourful procession from Madhu’s canteen, that paraded different streets on the campus, and held the rally.
While addressing the rally, leaders of the organisation alleged that Chhatra League, ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, was establishing a reign of terror at the educational institutes across the country taking advantages of dysfunctional students’ unions.
They also said that without active students’ unions it would be impossible to restore the democratic culture on the campuses.
Stating that education was not commodity, student federation leaders also demanded a uniformed science based education system for all.
Chhatra Federation central president Golam Mostofa presided over the rally. Among others, Chhatra Federation DU chapter president Umme Habiba Benojir, and central organising secretary Moshiur Rahman Khan addressed the programme.
