The immediate past Indian president, Pranab Mukherjee, is scheduled for today to arrive in Dhaka on a five-day personal tour.
Pranab’s daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee is likely to accompany him during the visit, his first foreign tour after retirement in July 2017.
Pranab will join the concluding session of international Bangla literature conference as chief guest in Dhaka on Monday, foreign ministry officials said.
He will also join a special convocation of the University of Chittagong on Tuesday. The university is set to confer a honorary doctorate degree to Pranab.
Pranab is also scheduled to visit the place of house of Surya Sen, a noted activist of independence movement of undivided India, at Rauzan in Chittagong.
He would separately call on president Abdul Hamid and prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Abdul Hamid would host a dinner in the honour of the immediate past Indian president.
