The Sylhet Woman Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a daylong ‘Pitha Utsab’ in the city on Friday to promote traditional Bengali winter cakes.
Sylhet divisional commissioner Nazmunara Khanum inaugurated the festival as chief guest on the Police Line High School grounds at Rikabibazar in the morning.
Different institutions, social organisations and individuals set up stalls at the festival showcasing various kinds of home-made Pithas, including Bhapa, Chital, Sandesh, Chui, Puli, Papra and Patishapta.
The stalls were lavishly exhibiting conventional as well as new recipes of pithas that catered to the tastes of all.
SWCCI president Swarna Lata Roy chaired the inaugural programme that was attended, among others, by deputy commissioner Rahat Anwar, Sadar upazila chairman Ashfaq Ahmad, district sports association general secretary Mahi Uddin Ahmad Selim, vice-president of district Press Club Oyes Khasru and general secretary Shah Didar Alam Noble.
