The Jahangirnagar University authorities observed the institution’s 48th founding anniversary through holding daylong programmes on the campus on Friday amid festivity.
Several hundred former and current students, employees, officers and teachers participated in the programmes.
JU vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the event by hoisting the national flag and university flag and releasing balloons in front of business studies faculty in the morning.
Among others, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Alauddin, JU pro-VC (academic) Professor Abul Hossain, pro-VC (administration) Professor Amir Hussain, treasurer Professor Sheikh Monjurul Huq, and former JU VC Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir attended the inaugural session.
After the inaugural session, a colorful procession, led by VC Farzana Islam, was brought out from business studies faculty premises that paraded different streets on the campus.
The daylong programme included puppet show, cake fair and cultural function, organised by Student Welfare and Counseling Center of the university.
Besides, a photography exhibition on Jahangirnagar University was held at the central cafeteria, marking the day.
JU formally began its academic activities as a residential university on 12 January in 1971, with fur departments, 21 teachers, 150 students and three residential dormitories.
