Woman burnt to death while warming in bitter cold in Lalmonirhat

A woman, who suffered burns while warming herself in bitter cold, died at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital on Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as Fatema Begum, 56, wife of Rafiqul Islam of village Jhalangi in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Patgram police officer-in-charge Abani Shankar Kar confirmed the news of death.

Fatema suffered burn injuries at her house on Saturday evening while she tried to warm herself in shivering cold, said Hashem Ali, chairman of Srirampur union parishad.

She was rushed to the hospital and undergoing treatment there, he added.

Cold wave has been causing sufferings to the people of Lalmonirhat, among the northern districts, disrupting their normal activities.  

Met office recorded 9.6 degrees Celsius in Lalmonirhat on Sunday morning, our correspondent reports.
