A construction worker died and eight others were injured as an under-construction building collapsed at Sreepur in Gazipur on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Fakir Alam, 27, son of Abul Kashem of Char Mouhrihat area of Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur.
Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman said that an under-construction resort of Vision Group in Nischintopur area of Sreepur collapsed while the victims were working inside the building.
Three units of Sreepur and Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence went to the spot and rescued the victims from the spot, he added.
The injured workers were taken to a local hospital; and of them, two were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
Gazipur deputy commissioner Dewan Mohammed Humayun Kabir said that a six member probe body, led by
additional district magistrate Rahenul Islam, was formed to investigate the incident.
The committee had been asked them to submit its report within five working days, he said, adding that the district administration would provide Tk 20,000 to the family of the deceased and take measures to ensure treatment of the injured.
