Army Archery Club emerge champs

Dhaka Army Archery Club on Thursday emerged as champions in the two-day long 9th National Archery Championships held at the Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan and Bangladesh Ansar’s Md Milon Mollah also created new national records on the second and final day of the championship.
Archery Club finished top with five gold and four silver medals while Tirandaj Sangshad finished as runner-up with total 10 medals including two gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
Ruksana Akhter of Archery Club was adjudged as the best archer of the championships by claiming three gold medals.
In the men’s recurve team final, BKSP’s Hakim Ahmed Rubel, Sheikh Rajib and Md Tamimul Islam beat Tirandaj’s Md Ibrajim Sheikh Rejwan, Md Sakib Mollah and Md Abdullah Al-Mamun by 5-1 sets to win the gold medal.
On their way to gold, the BKSP archers scored record 1937 points beating their previous record of 1824 points, which they set in 2014.
In the men’s compound individual event, Ansar’s Milon created new record by scoring highest 685 points.
In the men’s individual recurve event, Ruman Sana of Ansar won gold medal after defeating Sheikh Sajib of BKSP by 7-3 in the final while Tamimul Islam of BKSP beat Tirandaj’s Ibrahim Skeikh Rejwan by 7-1 to grab bronze medal.
Beauty Roy of Tirandaj clinched gold in the women’s recurve individual event when she defeated Nasrin Akhter of Dhaka Army Archery Club by 7-3 sets.
Ity Khatun of Tirandaj Sangshad grabbed bronze medal by defeating BKSP’s Rabeya Khatun by 6-4 sets.
In the men’s compound individual event, Md Ashikuzzman of Tirandaj Sangshad beat Ratan Miah of Dhaka Army Archery Club by 143-138 points to win gold medal while Ashim Kumar Sarkar of Tirandaj Sangshad bagged bronze after defeating Sumon Kumar Das of ASPTS Archery Club by 142-132 points.
In the women’s section, Ruksana Akter of Archery club clinched gold by beating team-mate Susmita Banik by 140-139 points.
Tirandaj’s Bipasha Akhter claimed bronze medal with a win over Bonna Akter of BKSP by 100-95 points.
In the women’s compound team final, Archery Club’s Shamoli Roy, Nasrin Akter and Israt Jahan won gold medal by defeating BKSP’s Radiya Akter Shapal, Rabeya Khatun and Heera Moni by 5-3 sets while Ansar’s Nazmin Khatun, Mathui Marma and Afroza Akter Sathi clinched bronze.
In the mixed compound event, BKSP’s Radiya Akter Shapal and Tamimul Islam pair won gold medal by defeating Archery Club’s Tofazzal Hossain and Nasrin Akter pair by 5-1 sets.
In the men’s compound team event, Archery Club’s Ratan Miah, Javed Alam and Mamun Miah beat ASPTS’s Sumon Kumar Das, Mithu Rahman and Aliul Islam by 217-214 points to clinch gold medal.
In the women’s section, Archery Club’s Bipasha Akhter, Umme Ching Marma and Suma Biswas won gold after defeating Ansar’s Bonna Akhter, Sheuli Akhter and Suma Biswas by 22-189 points.
