The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis on Wednesday in a meeting with club representatives decided to start the next edition of Dhaka Premier League from February 5.
The CCDM meeting, held in Mirpur, also decided to allow each club to retain five players from the previous season before the controversial players’ by choice system, which would return after a year gap.
According to system, must play for a club, which will call him first in the draft, without having any say. The draft for the upcoming season will be held on January 20.
CCDM said it will prepare a list of 12 top players, who cannot be retained and must be picked for a club.
Clubs will have to make the payments as per the guideline drafted by CCDM in the meeting, said the officials.
CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed said that the clubs must pay 50 per cent of the payment to the retained players before the draft and if any club cannot fulfil the condition the concerned player would be put into the draft.
‘Every club can retain five players and the names of the retained players should be submitted by the clubs in the given deadline ahead of the draft,’ Inam told reporters in Mirpur.
‘There is always a concern about regular payments of the players. So we have decided that the clubs will need to pay 50 per cent of the remuneration to the retained players ahead of the draft. If any club fails to do that, that player can’t be retained and he will be open for the draft.
‘Another 25 per cent of the fee will have to be paid during the tournament and the rest of the 25 per cent will have to be paid after the end of the tournament,’ he added.
Inam claimed that due to the shortage of the grounds the tournament will start from the first week of February.
‘We had a target of starting the league in the last week of January or at the beginning of February. But we have shortage of grounds but NCL [National Cricket League] has finished now.
‘We want to start the BCL [franchise-based first-class tournament Bangladesh Cricket League] rounds from January 9 and it will be end [first three rounds] within January 24.
‘So the player by choice will be held in January 20 for Dhaka Premier League and the league will start from February 5,’ he added.
