Two injured in Jagannath univ BCL factional clashes

Two factions of Jagannath University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student’s wing of ruling Awami League, on Wednesday locked into a series of scuffles over establishing supremacy on the campus, leaving at least two severe injured.

The injured Chhatra League activists are social work department student Swapan and marketing department student Md Shohan.

Witnesses said that the clashes erupted when some followers of Md Joynul Abedin Rasel, general secretary of JnU Chhatra League, swooped on Swapan at around 9:00am on the campus leaving him severely injured following the attack on pharmacy department student Anik by some followers of Md Tarikul Islam, president of JnU Chhatra League, on the campus on January 2.

Both Swapan and Shohan, who suffered head injuries during the clashes, were rushed to local hospitals.

Later, Shohan was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

Md Joynul Abedin Rasel told New Age, ‘We will take action if any Chhatra League man is found involvement in the incident.’

Two factions of Chhatra League began chasing each other around 9:00am and continued till 1:00pm, Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Md Mashiur Rahman told New Age.

Two students, who were injured during the clashes, were taken to hospitals, he said.

The university vice-chancellor Mijanur Rahman told New Age, ‘The university authorities will take steps if any written complaint is filed regarding the matter.’
