Professor Sadruddin Ahmed, a former English professor of Rajshahi University, passed away at BIRDEM General Hospital in the capital on Monday.
He was 82.
His namaz-e-janaza was held after Esha prayers on Monday at a mosque in Mohammadpur and later he was laid to rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard.
The veteran English language teacher is survived by his wife and two sons.
Sadruddin Ahmed was born at village Hazrakhali in Satkhira on January 1 in 1935.
He studied English at Dhaka University and joined Rajshahi University as a lecturer in 1961.
He became professor at the department in 1971 and remained in service there till 1996.
During his long teaching career at Rajshahi University, he served as chairman of the English department, the arts faculty dean and chief editor of Rajshahi University Studies.
After retiring from the university, Sadruddin worked as professor and adviser at the English language and literature department of Northern University Bangladesh in Dhaka.
