A Comilla court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia and 55 other leaders and activists of the party in a case filed for a 2015 arson attack on a bus at Chauddagram in Comilla, which left eight people dead.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Joynab Begum issued the order accepting the charge-sheet against 78 people in the case.
The other BNP leaders for whom the warrants were issued include central leaders Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and former local lawmakers Monirul Haque Chowdhury and Abdullah Abu Taher.
During BNP-led alliance’s movement to bring down the government, on February 3, 2015, eight people were killed and at least 20 people were injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus at Jagmohanpur of Chauddagram.
Two separate cases were filed in connection with the incident.
Police sub-inspector Nuruzzaman Hawlader filed a murder case accusing 78 people.
In another case filed under the explosive substances act, a Comilla court on October 9, 2017 ordered to arrest Khaleda and 45 other leaders and activists of the party.
