The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has extended the deadline for the submission of licence renewal application for voice over internet protocol service providers (VSP) by seven days.
The telecom regulator issued a notice in this regard on Monday. Earlier, commission had asked all the entities to submit licence renewal applications within December 31, 2017.
BTRC in November decided to extend the validity period of VoIP service providers amid falling incoming international phone calls through legal channel.
Commission had mentioned that they would not consider any applications which would be submitted after the deadline.
Besides, entities which were not interested to renew their licences need to clear their dues within the stipulated time and inform the commission accordingly.
The BTRC notice also asked all the VSP licensees to deposit Tk 5,750 in favour of the commission as application fees, evaluation fees and value added tax.
The details of the required documents can be found at the website of the commission.
BTRC have so far issued 881 licences to contain illegal VoIP calls and bring them through legal channel.
In January 2013, the BTRC introduced the VoIP service providing licence and issued the licence to 844 operators for a period of five years that will end in January 2018. The commission awarded 37 new VSP licences later.
Issuance of huge number of VSP licences resulted in market saturation and inoperative state of almost 90 per cent operators.
