The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain Raju, 25, son of Jahangir Alam, a resident of Dharmapur in Feni Sadar. He was listed in 10 cases including of rape, robbery, arms and drugs, RAB said.

Father of the deceased said his son got release on bail from jail 10 days back.

RAB personnel picked Raju up from the house around 4:00am today, he claimed.

On a tip-off that a gang of drug traders gathered in Dharmapur area, a team of the battalion raided there, said Squadron Leader Shafayat Jamil Fahim, Feni camp commander of RAB-7.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on RAB personnel prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

Raju received bullet-wounds during the gunfight.

He was taken to Feni General Hospital where on-duty physician declared him dead, the RAB official said.

The battalion personnel also recovered arms and ammunition from the spot.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
