Bangladesh Olympic Association on Saturday proposed the names of some 10 disciplines for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
The BOA in their first executive meeting on Saturday discussed over the participation of the Asian Games and came up with the suggestion that Bangladesh should participate only in archery, shooting, women’s football, women’s kabaddi, athletics, swimming, wrestling, beach volleyball, bridge and golf.
BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza said that the disciplines have been primarily chosen for the meet and a final decision regarding the matter will be taken soon.
‘We selected the disciplines considering their prospect though we will confirm their participation after we get assurance of fund form the government,’ he said.
BOA dropped men’s football and men’s kabaddi as they have little prospect, said deputy secretary general Ashikur Rahman Miku.
‘We put an emphasis on women’s football rather than men’s football considering their immense success in the age-level.’
Bangladesh won three medals in last Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in 2014 when they claimed silver in women’s cricket and bronze medals respectively in men’s cricket and women’s kabaddi.
The Olympic Council Asia dropped cricket from Jakarta meet citing lack of infrastructure.
