Faculty of fine art of Dhaka University celebrated 103rd birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin through Zainul Utsab 2017 featuring Zainul Mela, cultural show, art and photography exhibition and others on Friday.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated Zainul Utsab at Bakultala as the chief guest, while Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation secretary general M Shahidul Islam and engineer Moynul Abedin attended the function as special guests.
Professor Nisar Hossain, dean of FFA, delivered the welcome speech at the programme, which was presided over by DU vice chancellor Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman.
Earlier in the morning eminent artists, teachers of FFA, Dhaka University vice chancellor and cultural affairs minister paid their respects to Zainul Abedin by placing wreaths at the grave of Shilpacharya.
Like previous years, the FFA honoured three eminent artists including Indian artist Sanat Kar and two Bangladeshi artists Monowar Hossain and Rafiqun Nabi with Zainul Sammanona this year.
People in large numbers visited different stalls displaying artworks and handicraft items by local artisans and students of FFA at three-day Zainul Mela held on FFA premises. At Bakultala artistes entertained the audience presenting traditional performances like poter gaan and others. In the evening students of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology presented songs and dance recitals to the delight of the audience.
The event also includes a group art exhibition displaying artworks by teachers and students of FFA and a solo photo show of Imran-uz-Zaman featuring photographs of different festivals and fairs held in rural Bangladesh.
