AL leader stabbed dead in Sherpur

A local Awami League leader was stabbed to death by a youth following an altercation at Charbhabna village in Nakla of Sherpur on Wednesday morning. 

The deceased was identified as Khorshedul Alam, 45, son of Abdus Sobhan Miah of the village. He was the former president of ward-9 unit of Char Astadhar Union of Awami League. 

Officer-in-charge of Nakla police station Golam Haidar said Moyna Miah, 22, son of Abdul Khan of Charniamatpur village, had an outstanding payment of Tk 180 at the shop of Khorshedul’s daughter. 

The altercation began between them when Khorshedul asked Moyna to pay the money in the morning.

At one stage, Moyna stabbed Khorshedul with a sharp knife around 9am, leaving him dead on the spot. 

The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
