Five-day theatre festival underway at Savar

A five-day theatre festival marking the month of victory commenced on Thursday at Enam Medical College Hospital auditorium in Savar.
The festival titled ‘Victory Theatre Festival 2017’, organised by Savar-based Jagoroni Theatre, was inaugurated by member of the parliament Md Enamur Rahman. Thespian Ataur Rahman attended the inauguration ceremony as chief guest.
Five local theatre troupes are staging their acclaimed productions at the event.
The opening day of the festival featured a show of Rajar Chithi by Jagoroni Theatre. The play dramatises the real-life story of Haridas Basak, who drew inspiration from Tagore’s works to fight injustices suffered by the common people and was killed by the Pakistani army during the 1971 war of independence.
Theatre troupe Nagarik Nattyangan staged its play 71 O Ekjon Natyakar at the event on Friday. Subachan Natya Sansad will stage Pranay Jamuna at the festival today. Palakar will stage Banglar Mati Banglar Jol on Sunday and Prangane Mor will stage Aurangzeb on the concluding day of the festival.
Jagoroni Theatre felicitated Enamul Haque, Amirul Haque Chowdhury, Lucky Enam, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Ananta Hira, SA Haque Alik, Ahsan Habib Nasim, Nuna Afroz and Aniket Paul for their contribution of theatre at the festival.
‘The festival aims at making the people aware about liberation war. The audience can enjoy plays at the festival for free everyday at 6:00pm,’ Soron Shaha, a member of Jagoroni theatre, told New Age.
