Speakers and energy sector experts underscored the need to reduce the increasing pressure on fossil fuel by boosting use of renewable energies in both rural and urban areas.
It was now time to protect natural resources, they said at the closing discussion of a conference on renewable energy held at a hotel in Chittagong city on Tuesday night.
The three-day long conference titled 4th International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Renewable Energy-2017 was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology from December 18 till 20.
Md Muslim Chowdhury, secretary to finance ministry and chief guest at the programme, said instead of depending on only fossil fuel, emphasis should be given toward enriching renewable energy sources to face the energy challenges.
He requested all to work together toward building social awareness and end misuse of fossil fuel.
Students, teachers, researchers and scientists from 11 different countries including Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, United States, Australia, China, Canada and India presented 146 research papers in the conference, which also had six key-note paper presentations and 16 technical sessions.
CUET vice chancellor Professor Dr Rafiqul Alam was the special guest at the ceremony while Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Professor Dr Sajal Chandra Banik presided over the event.
