Nat’l dance drama fest from Dec 18

The third national dance drama festival will begin on December 18 with participation of dance troupes from across the country.
The festival, organised by Bangladesh Dance Artistes’ Association, will be held in eight districts of the country and feature performances by 15 troupes in two segments.
The first segment of the festival will be held from December 18 to 24 (excluding December 21 and 22). Seven dance troupes from seven districts and one Dhaka-based troupe will stage their dance drama productions at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy as part of the event.
Seven Dhaka-based troupes will stage their productions in seven districts of the country during the second segment of the festival which will be held in January, said organisers at a press conference held on Wednesday at a restaurant in the capital.
The press conference was attended by Bangladesh Dance Artistes’ Association president Minu Haque, BDAA general secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, advisors Laila Hasan, Zeenat Barkatullah, Amanul Haque, Glam Mostafa Khan and others.
‘This year we have invited district-based troupes to stage their productions in Dhaka, while Dhaka-based troupes will stage their productions in different districts’, said Minu Haque, president of Bangladesh Dance Artistes’ Association.
The festival, dedicated to recently-demised dance artiste Rahijha Khanam Jhunu, will commence with a show of Surya Mukhi Nadi by Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts on December 18. Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the festival as chief guest.
Sylhet-based Nrityashaili, Mymensingh-based Bahurupi and five district dance artistes’ associations from Chittagong, Rajshahi, Kishoreganj, Satkhira and Khulan will stage dance drama productions like Mayar Khela, Drohokaal, Biday Abhishap, Mahua, Sonai Madhab and Nakshi Kanthar Math at first segment of the festival.
Seven Dhaka-based troupes will travel to different districts and stage their productions in January.
Kathak Nritya Sampraday will stage Prasanga 47 in Chittagong, Sukanya will stage Ichamatir Banke in Rajshahi, Pallavi will stage Shap Machon in Khulna, Ballet Troupe will stage Kusumer Swapna in Noakhali, Nandan Kala Kendra will stage Mahua in Habiganj, Ghasphulnadi will stage Nakshi Kanthar Math in Natore and Dibya will stage Shunya E Bukey Phire Ay in Mymensingh.
‘By participating in the festival dance artistes from different districts of the country will get a chance to perform before the Dhaka audience, while Dhaka-based troupes will stage their productions in different districts’, said Laila Hasan.
