4 ‘extremists’ arrested in Bogra

Police on Thursday said that they arrested four suspected members of a faction of the banned extremist outfit, Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, in Mokamtola Bazar area in Shibganj of Bogra Wednesday night.
The arrested were identified as Babul Akter alias Babul Master, 45, Delwar Hossain alias Mistri Mizan, 39, Alamgir Hossain alias Arif, 26, and Afzal Hossain alias Limon, 28.
Acting on a tip-off, district police and a team of police headquarters jointly conducted a drive in Mokamtola Bazar area and arrested the four men, said Bogra additional superintendent of police Sanatan Chakraborty.
The police claimed that Babul was the chief of the JMB faction’s northern region unit, Delwar was a Sura board member and the other two were members.
According to the police, Babul was made the unit chief after the arrest of Rajib Gandhi alias Jahangir Alam, one of the masterminds of attacking Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan in the capital.
The law enforcers also seized a foreign made pistol, 15 bullets, a magazine, four Burmese knives, and a machete from them.
