Police arrested four suspected operatives of a faction of banned extremist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh in Mokamtola Bazar area of Shibganj in Bogra Wednesday night.
Among the arrested, Babul Akter alias Babul Master, 45, was carrying out as the chief of the JMB faction’s northern region’s military unit, police said.
Babul Master, who was known by the name in the organisation, became the chief after the arrest of Rajib Gandhi alias Jahangir Alam, one of the masterminds of attacking Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan in the capital, said Bogra additional superintendent of police Sanatan Chakraborty.
Three other arrested were Delwar Hossain alias Mistri Mizan, 39, Alamgir Hossain alias Arif, 26, and Afzal Hossain alias Limon, 28. All the detained persons were members of Majlish-e-Sura of the JMB faction.
On a tip-off, Bogra district police and a team of police headquarters jointly conducted a drive in Mokamtola Bazar area and arrested the four, the senior police official said.
The law enforcers also seized a foreign made pistol, 15 bullets, a magazine, four Burmese knives, and a machete from their possession, he added.
