Experts on Sunday urged the government to introduce fiscal and other incentives for building managerial capacity among local professionals to save billions of dollars per year.
They made the recommendation at a National Public Private Dialogue on Strategic Management and Professional Skills Development organised by Bangladesh Employers’ Federation and held at Lakeshore Hotel in the city.
‘Private sector is facing challenges in the area of diversification, shortage of business school and capacity building partnership between public and private sectors,’ Md Khurshid Alam, assistant country director of United Nations Development Programme, said.
He said that the investment of public sector is not enough to create jobs as well as produce competent professionals.
Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, a Dhaka University professor, identified four challenges in building capacity of management and technical professionals to cope up with the new global dynamics.
He recommended for introducing fiscal incentives for building managerial capacity as the country is losing billions of dollars every year to hire mid-level management from abroad.
Shibli also recommended for setting up a centre of excellence for management capacity building with stakeholders under public private partnership.
In a presentation he showed top 10 weakest competencies for local professionals including communications, strategic thinking, market forecasting, marketing and promotion, initiative, product development, critical analysis, sales planning and operations management.
‘We are moving forward to cope with the changes happening in the globe,’ said MA Mannan, state minister for finance.
He said that finance ministry is carrying out a large programme namely Skills for Employment Investment Programme with many components to enhance skills.
Kamran T Rahman, president of BEF, urged the government for restructuring and introducing industry needs based curriculum in the educational institutions.
