Number of users of Uber, an on-demand ride-sharing mobile application-based service, increased to 2 lakh in Dhaka in November this year.
Uber on Sunday released the data on the eve of completion of a year of its service in Dhaka stating that more than 10,000 active driver partners were joining the service every month and hundreds everyday to provide the ride-sharing service.
It also stated that a single driver partner of the service in Dhaka has taken 3,350 trips on an average, while a single rider in Dhaka has taken 695 trips during last one year.
It also said that an Uber was requested for 1.5 million times in the month of November this year.
Pradeep Parameswaran, Uber central operation (India and South Asia) Head, said, ‘Dhaka presented us with a challenge of transforming the transportation landscape and creating alternatives to a city burdened with a growing population of cars on its roads.’
‘With smartphones, technology that is already in our pockets, and utilizing the existing resources, we can pave way for a Dhaka that moves with the lives of its people,’ he said.
‘We would like to thank the government of Bangladesh, our business partners, riders and driver partners for their continued support and love in making this vision a reality in Dhaka,’ Pradeep said.
The statement of Uber also said that its drivers include a single car owner, professionals from telcos and banks, and students.
People use Uber the most during 8am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm, while on an average uber driver can pick up its riders in less than 7 minutes in Dhaka.
Uttara, Banani and Gulshan 1 have been observed as the most popular destinations in the city for the Uber riders, it said.
During its first year in Dhaka, Uber launched UberPREMIER and UberMOTO to meet the unique needs of the vast demography of riders and driver partners in the city.
