Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has issued mobile number portability licence to Infozillion BD-Teletech Consortium Limited.
MNP service will allow the mobile phone users to change operator without changing their existing number by paying Tk 30 as charge for the service.
BTRC chairman Shahjahan Mahmood on Thursday handed over a copy of the licence to Infozillion managing director Mabroor Hossain at a programme held at the commission’s office in the city, an official of the commission told New Age on Thursday.
BTRC commissioners Md Jahurul Haque, Md Rezaul Quader and Md Aminul Hassan, its secretary Md Sarwar Alam, director generals Delwar Hossain, Brigadier General Md Emdad ul Bari, Brigadier General Md Nasim Parvez and Colonel Md Mustafa Kamal were present, among others, on the occasion.
Infozillion was awarded the licence after the entity completed all the procedures including payment of Tk 11.6 crore in licence fee including value-added tax for the purpose, the BTRC official said.
The mobile number portability service might be available between March and April next year, Mabroor informed reporters at a press conference held in Dhaka on November 7.
Under the licensing condition, the operator will get 180 days to roll out the service.
