Left students express solidarity with protesting youth

Progressive Students Alliance, a platform of left students’ organisations, on Wednesday expressed solidarity with a former Dhaka University student, who has been observing hunger strike for five days demanding Central Students Union election of the university.
PSA also held a press conference at Madhur Canteen in Dhaka University in this regard.
Tuhin Kanti Das, Bangladesh Chhatra Union’s DU unit president, read out the written statement at the press conference.
Tuhin said slammed the university authorities for maintaining silence over the former student’s hunger strike.
Tuhin said two months had passed since the High Court issued an order to complete the Senate within six months, but no initiative from the university’s end became visible.
He demanded immediate DUCSU election to ensure democratic environment of the university.
PSA also announced to hold a human chain at the base of Raju Sculpture on the campus on December 1 to press their demands.
Walid Ashraf, who completed his master’s from Institute of Social Welfare and Research of the university, started the strike around 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon at the ‘memory eternal’ premises in front of the vice-chancellor house.
Ashraf said he would continue his strike. He also demanded DUCSU election before the registered graduate election of the university.
