Cultural organisation Wrishiz Shilpi Gosthi celebrated its 41st founding anniversary through a colourful programme at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
The programme featured conferring of honourary awards, discussion and cultural show.
The 41st anniversary celebration programme commenced with a chorus rendition of the national anthem by artistes of Wrishiz Shilpi Gosthi. Wrishiz artistes in chorus also presented songs like Eso Aj Gorey Tuli Manabik Bishwa, Prithibi Ebar Ese Dekhe Jao and others.
Civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon attended the programme as chief guest, while cultural personality Kamal Lohani and former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus and Indian poet Ziad Ali attended the programme as special guests. Chief of Wrishiz Fakir Alamgir presided over the session.
‘People’s songs have always played a major role in making people aware during times of crisis,’ said Rashed Khan Menon.
‘I am happy to see that a few cultural troupes and organisations like Wrishiz are still working to remind people of their roots’, said Kamal Lohani.
This year, Wrishiz conferred honourary awards on four eminent personalities. Director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky, seasoned theatre activist Shimul Yousuf, singer Sadi Mohammad and professor Bishwajit Ghosh received awards for their contribution towards culture and education.
The programme ended with a cultural show where artistes of different cultural organisations like Satyen Sen Shilpighoshthi, Udichi Shilpigoshthi, Samaswar, Swabhumi and Kranti presented people’s songs.
Fakir Alamgir, Abu Bakar Siddiqui and Anima Mukti Gomez entertained the audience with solo presentations.
