A case has been filed with Nabinagar police station in Brahmanbaria for killing local Awami League leader Swapna Akter.

Nabinagar police officer-in-charge Aslam Sikder said the victim’s brother, Amir Hossain, filed a case on Wednesday night against five to seven unnamed people.

Meanwhile, police detained CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Jahangir Alam for interrogation over the murder from his house at village Jinudpur in Nabinagar Thursday morning, he said.

Earlier, miscreants on Wednesday night killed Swapna Akter, 35, women affairs secretary of Awami League’s Nabinagar upazila committee, near her paternal residence at Charpara. They attacked Swapna around 9:30pm when she was close to her paternal residence on an auto-rickshaw after attending the council session of the party’s 10-Mouza ward unit.

The body was taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for autopsy this morning.

The funeral prayer of the AL leader will be held after asr prayers.
