Protests held at HSTU

A group of teachers and students of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University held protests on Tuesday on campus against confinement of their vice-chancellor Md Abul Kashem.
Earlier, on Monday, VC Abul Kashem was confined for four hours in his room by members of the progressive teachers forum protesting at suspension of the university director of student counseling Harunur Rashid.
Harunur Rashid alleged that he was relieved of his duty as he protested against irregularity and corruption in an admission test.
Another group of VC-loyal teachers, along with some students, attacked the protesting teachers and students, leaving five teachers injured.
In connection with the attack, general secretary of the progressive teachers forum Balram Ray filed a case with Kotowali police against 15 teachers and students on Tuesday.
At the Tuesday’s human chain, the protesters, loyal to the VC, alleged that a number of people of the progressive forum were unhappy with the newly appointed VC and were interrupting his work.
President of pro-liberation war teachers’ association Md Mizanur Rahman, director of student counseling and guidance department Md Shahdat Hossain and teachers’ association general secretary Md Fazlul Hoque spoke at the event among others.
