The High Court Division on Wednesday rejected the bail prayer of Sohel Rana, the convicted owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza at Savar, until his appeal against three-year jail in for corruption was dis-posed of.
A single-judge bench of Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee, however, admitted his appeal for hearing.
Rana filed the appeal against his three year’s jail for corruption handed by a trial court on August 29.
The trial court had also fined him Tk 50,000 or jail for three more months in default.
Rana’s bail prayer was opposed by the Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan on the ground he was also the principal accused in another case over the murders of 1,136 apparel workers following collapse of Rana Plaza in Aril 2013.
Rana’s lawyer Jahanara Sarkar while moving his bail petition submitted that her client’s three-year term was about to end as he already served for 26 months.
