A businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Banani in the capital Tuesday evening.
Victim Siddiqur Rahman Munshi, 50, was the owner of Munshi Enterprise, an overseas recruitment agency. He hailed from Kalihati in Tangail.
Three bullet injured staffs of the agency –– Mostafizur Rahman, Parvej and Mokhles –– were admitted at United Hospital at Banani.
Police officials said that the three sustained bullet injuries in different parts of their body.
Sub-inspector of Banani police station Abdul Malek said that the incident took place in a four storied
building leaving Siddiqur dead on the spot and three injured.
Local people said that they heard repeated sounds of firing at the house.
Khalilur Rahman, a business partner of the victim, said that Siddiqur used to export migrant workers to Middle East and some other countries.
Officials of the police and other law-enforcement agencies visited the spot immediately after the
incident but none was arrested.
‘Why the incident took place was unknown,’ said Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Mostak Ahmed.
Referring to local people, he said that four assailants entered the house at about 8:00pm and fled away after shooting at the four. Siddiqur died on the spot.
Mostak said that the police already started the investigation into the incident. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
No case was filed until submission of this report at 1:00am on Wednesday.
