Imrul Kayes and Jos Buttler shared yet another crucial partnership as former champions Comilla Victorians thrashed Chittagong Vikings by six wickets to post their third win in the Bangladesh Premier League in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Imrul hit 45 off 36 balls while Buttler added 44 off 31 balls as they put 74 runs for the third wicket to lead Comilla to 140-4 in 18.1 overs after their bowlers displayed another solid performance to restrict Chittagong to 139- 4.
Imrul and Buttler were instrumental to Comilla’s nine-wicket win over Rajshahi in the previous match respectively with 45 not out and 50 runs.
Comilla’s third win in the tournament, which took them level with Dhaka Dynamites and Sylhet Sixers at the top of the table, also marked the return of their icon player Tamim Iqbal from injury to play his first match of the season.
Tamim, however, could not make much of an impact as he scored only four runs while his opening partner Liton Das also returned for 21, but Imrul and Buttler did not let Comilla face any trouble.
Earlier, Chittagong suffered for lack of firepower at the depth despite Luke Ronchi (31) and Soumya Sarkar ( 30) giving them a decent start with a 46-run opening stand in little over five overs.
Put into bat first, Chittagong reached 75-1 in first 10 overs but could score only 64 runs in the remaining overs with plenty of wickets in hand.
Dilshan Munaweera (19 off 25 balls) Sikander Raza (20 off 24 balls), were both guilty of wasting balls while skipper Misbah-ul Haq, who faced some criticisms for his poor strike rate in the previous matches, could score only 16 off 11 balls this time.
Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Saifuddin, Rashid Khan and Dwayne Bravo each claimed a wicket for Comilla.
