Journalists submit memo to home ministry

Journalists’ associations held a rally and submitted a memorandum to the home ministry on Tuesday, demanding necessary steps for the safe return of news portal purboposhchimbd’s senior reporter Utpal Das who went missing over a month ago.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Union of Journalists, Dhaka Reporters Unity and Narsingdi Journalists Association jointly organised the programme in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
The journalists expressed their disappointment over incompetence of the law enforcement agencies in finding Utpal.
They asked for the prime minister’s intervention in this regard.
BFUJ joint secretary Pulok Ghatak, while addressing the rally, announced that they would continue their demonstrations until the safe return of Utpol Das.
BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and DUJ president Shaban Mahmud, among others, addressed the rally.
After the rally, the demonstrators handed over the memorandum to the home ministry.
Journalist Utpal Das, 29, went missing on October 10.
His colleagues suspected that he might have aroused ire of some quarters for his last facebook post on October 10 reads ‘Talked about new issue: arrest’.
