Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club’s Nigerian coach Joseph Afusi said that he had submitted his resignation to the club authorities on Tuesday hours before his departure for London.
The club officials, however, denied the news when asked over Afusi’s absence in the dugout during their Tuesday’s Bangladesh Premier League match against Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Afusi, who confirmed his resignation to New Age, said he mentioned ‘personal reasons’ in his resignation letter.
‘I submitted my resignation letter to the club official by e-mail and also chairman’s [governing body chairman Manzur Kader] personal e-mail this [Tuesday] morning before I left Bangladesh for London,’ said Afusi.
Jamal’s football committee chairman Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu denied the coach’s claim of resignation.
‘He [Afusi] was missing from last night [Monday night] and he didn’t inform anyone of us before leaving the club,’ Chunnu told reporters after the match.
‘It was really unexpected because we provided him advance money and we believed him because we had a very good relationship with him.’
