The Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution thanking UNESCO for recognising the historic March 7 speech of the country’s founding
president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the United Nations’ organisation as a World Documentary Heritage to preserve it at its International Memory of the World Register.
Leader of the House, Sheikh Hasina, also prime minister, quoting some portions of the speech said it reflected that he had relation with the soul of the country’s people.
She said playing of March 7 speech was totally prohibited after assassination of Mujib in 1975, saying one generation from 1975 to 1996 was deprived of hearing the speech.
Treasury bench member Tofail Ahmed, also commerce minister, under rule 147 (1) of rules of procedure placed the proposal for holding a general discussion on recognition of the historic speech of Sheikh Mujib by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation on October 30.
