A literary award named after late eminent writer Humayun Ahmed was conferred at a programme, marking 69th birth anniversary of the late poet, at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Sunday.
Writer Jyoti Prakash Dutt and emerging writer Mojaffor Hossain received the award titled ‘Exim Bank- Anyadin Humayun Ahmed Sahitya Purushkar 2017’ respectively in lifetime achievement and young litterateur categories.
Besides crests and uttariyas, Jyoti Prakash Dutt received Tk 5,00,000 and Mojaffor Hossain received Tk 1,00,000.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor handed over the awards to the recipients. Among others, emeritus professor Anisuzzaman, who also headed the awards committee, Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan, Humayun Ahmed’s widow Meher Afroz Shaon, Humayun’s brother and famous cartoonist Ahsan Habib, Anyadin editor Mazharul Islam and Exim Bank managing director Haider Ali Mia were present on the occasion.
‘Humayun Ahmed developed an original style in writing Bangla fiction, which later became very popular. I am happy to receive the award named after such a successful writer’, said Jyoti Prakash Dutt.
Young writer Mojaffor Hossain thanked the orginasers for the honour. ‘For a young writer like me, receiving Humayun Ahmed Literary Award means a lot. I feel greatly inspired and honoured’, said Mojaffor Hossain.
Prior to the award-giving programme, Meher Afroz Shaon presented two songs- Je Thake Ankhi Pallabe and Jodi Mon Kande- penned by Humayun Ahmed.
