Two siblings died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital early Friday hours after they had been hacked by assailants in Alfadanga upazila of the district allegedly over past enmity.
The dead were identified as Idris Molla, 48, and his younger brother Lablu Mollah, 42, sons of late Zahur Mollah, a resident of village Magura in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur.
Idris Molla was the vice-president of Shekhor union unit of Awami League and Lablu Mollah was the union member of Jubo league, said Boalmari upazila unit president of Awami League M A Mosharraf Hossain.
Locals said that a group of about 15 men, armed with sharp weapons, launched an attack on the brothers in Shawshan Ghat area in Alfadanga around 10:30pm on Thursday.
When locals rushed to the aid, the assailants fled the spot, leaving the siblings critically injured.
The two men were taken to Alfadanga Upazila Health Complex and later were shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where they died early Friday.
Victims’ family members alleged that the attack was made by the followers of former union parishad member Kawser Sheikh over past enmity.
The police arrested five people on Friday in this connection, said Boalmari police officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman.
