A group of eleven senior and junior artists are showcasing their paintings at a group art exhibition underway at Drik Gallery in the capital city.
Different Strokes, a platform of artists, has organised the six-day exhibition featuring 66 paintings by senior artists Alamgir Kabir, Razia Sultana Khan, Tahera Banu, Tasneem Siraj Mahboob and junior artists Bayan Shafique, Nawshin Nawar, Nighat Khan, Sharmin Fatema, Sonya Rahman, Thea Ariana Mahboob and Zayn Shafique.
The displayed paintings at the exhibition are of different mediums and themes. Almost all the art works are very colourful and eye catching. The artists have depicted womanhood, nature, scenic beauty and day-to-day objects on their canvasses.
Noted artist Alamgir Kabir’s art works are semi-abstract or abstract in style and one of his abstract paintings titled ‘Variation of Vermilion’ depicts a open, red canvas with a touch of blue, green and black brush stokers.
A very beautiful painting on display is Nawshin Nawar’s watercolour work titled ‘Timeless Beauty’. The painting shows a very old building, almost tattered and covered with ferns and fauna.
Nighat Khan’s oil on canvas painting titled ‘Back to the Nest’ shows an enormous lake with trees on its banks in the twilight. The reflection of the setting sun on the lake water has created a magical sight in the painting.
Senior artist Tasneem Siraj Mahboob has portrayed simple day-to-day objects like books and spectacles. The artist has painted different belongings of her father including his books and spectacles on canvas.
Zayn Shafique has depicted nature in her paintings and one of her displayed works shows villagers extracting juice from date trees on a misty winter morning.
The exhibition, which began from November 3, will remain open from 3pm to 8pm till today.
